A single test session is involved. |
 |
The test session is not timed
with the expectation that students will typically
require 2 or 3 hours to complete the test. However,
students may continue working for as long as they want, even after school
hours, but only during the day of
the session.
|
 |
Use of a dictionary - available in the testing room - is
permitted during the test session.

Based on three related
reading selections, called a "triplet," approximately
3,000 words in length |
 |
A total of 28 multiple choice
questions testing basic comprehension, appreciation of
literary elements and techniques, and ability to analyze
and critically evaluate the text is presented. |
 |
Three short answer questions
requiring the student to compose an original response
consisting of multiple sentences also appear. These
questions examine the student's appreciation of literary
elements and techniques and his or her ability to
analyze and critically evaluate the triplet text. |

Two parts comprise the test -
the creation of an original detailed composition based
on a writing prompt plus the revision and editing of two writing selections.
|
 |
The
writing prompt is related to the triplet from the
Reading Test, providing students with substantial
information about the subject matter upon which to base
their composition.
|
 |
Based on the Writing Prompt, students are expected to prepare
a detailed writing sample.
|
 |
The revision and editing portion of the test involves 20 multiple choice
questions, 10 corresponding to each writing selection.
